Creating a safer and more productive workplace with technology and innovation

A clean, safe, and hygienic workplace keeps people healthy and happy. As a global business delivering cleaning services at the frontline, ISS keeps up with the new technologies and innovations to offer clients extensive strategic, tactical, and operational know-how. ISS deploys environment-friendly and efficient robots to help customers reduce costs and increase efficiency to achieve sustainable goals. Since earlier this year, ISS has been in collaboration with tech companies, university and consultancy firm to bring a new innovation project, FacilityCobot to life.

ISS has made a strong impression at the event with how intelligent cleaning robots and automated cleaning solutions can boost efficiency and bring convenience. Meanwhile, a 24H Fresh Choice Cafeteria, the unmanned intelligent catering solutions jointly developed by Fresh Choice and ISS was introduced to visitors for having a brand-new food experiences in the post pandemic era.

Managing critical environment and equipment with a focus on reliability

Asset management and facility management are of vital importance for promoting social and industrial transformation to realize a more sustainable future. Focused on reliability, ISS operation performance strategy continuously seeks to reduce energy consumption and increase efficiency of facilities and equipment.

At this year’s event, ISS brought proven solutions to managing critical environment and equipment and achieving low energy building goals with practical cases of its technical services. For example, ISS has helped an International School to save energy of more than 60% throughout the year and reduce carbon emissions significantly by using the combination of air source heat pump, solar energy and boiler to replace the original electric boiler or gas boiler to produce hot water. In another case, ISS has electrified the vehicle fleet for all industrial parks of a world-famous manufacturing enterprise in China to reduce energy use and prepare the customer for a future low-carbon economy. Also, ISS has reduced 20% energy consumption for a leading pharmaceutical enterprise by adopting AI control modules to transform high-efficient generator rooms in cooling station, providing energy audit services with detailed solutions for energy conservation and carbon emission reduction.

Making each meal with a sustainable approach

In a recent survey, ISS found that "environmental sustainability" has risen to the third place in the ranking of business priority.

Food production is responsible for a quarter of all carbon emissions, and enterprises could play a role in reducing carbon emissions by using food more efficiently. ISS works with Winnow, which has developed AI that allows businesses to track food consumption in the kitchen and restaurant, to predict trends in their kitchens’ production methods and employee’s daily eating habits. ISS serves over one million meals a day in hospitals, schools, and organizations around the world. In H1 2022, ISS has helped clients using the tool to save on 201k of wasted meals, which equates to 80 tons of food and 346 tons of CO2 saved.

When designing menus, the ISS chef dedicates more space to plant-based options to achieve carbon emission reductions in the food supply chain. At this Expo, ISS, together with Green Monday, a Hong Kong-based plant-based food company, introduced the benefits of a plant-based diet and ran sampling and tasting activities during the event.

This year, ISS again brought the "Copenhagen Coffee Bar" branded with ISS Unity Coffee to the Danish Pavilion. Unity Coffee is ISS group newly launched coffee brand to serve sustainable, ethically sourced coffee which contributes £1, or the local equivalent, for every kilo of coffee bought to the Common Grounds Foundation to support local coffee growers’ initiatives.

Building the corporate culture of sustainability in the workplace

Today, the society, people and companies begin to make sustainability at the top of their priorities. Sustainability activities and practices in workplace will be the key to connecting people and places to reduce our carbon footprints.

At this year's Expo, ISS demonstrated its ESG strategy through multiple interactive activities with sustainable elements embedded. Visitors were invited to learn more about energy conservation and environmental protection, workplace safety, and daily nutrition in a workplace environment.

In the Post Covid, companies are becoming more and more focused on employee engagement. People are the key to the success of businesses, therefore doing more to support their well-being and productivity will increase productivity and performance. ISS designs activities that can shape an enjoyable and comfortable workplace environment to engage people. As one of the activities that ISS initiated at CIIE, "Smoothie Bike Challenge" helped visitors re-energize and make the workplace work better for end-user.

Facility management plays a vital role in creating a sustainable workplace, which helps boost efficiency, improve employee engagement, and achieve sustainable targets for business. The industry in China is getting mature and ISS continues to partner with the innovators in the industry to facilitate the facility management development, improve the understanding of the sustainability in the workplace for all companies and industries it services, help customers achieve their sustainable targets, and thus contribute to realizing the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals in China.
