CN_EN_ISS and World Toilet Day: A Shared Focus on the Health and Dignity of Restrooms

World Toilet Day falls on November 19th every year. The purpose of this day is to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis and provide assistance to the 3.5 billion people who still lack safe sanitation facilities. The day emphasizes the importance of sanitation facilities for development and their impact on the environment. The safe use of clean toilets is crucial to achieving the specific goal of "adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all" within the Sustainable Development Goals.

According to statistical analysis by the World Toilet Organization (WTO), an adult uses the toilet about 6 to 8 times a day, roughly 2,500 times a year, which calculates spending approximately 3 years of one's lifetime in the restroom. As an important space located at the center of our lives, restrooms should be safe and reliable; when toilet systems are inadequate, destroyed, or damaged, pollution spreads and deadly diseases can break out.

You might have encountered such a scenario: walking into a restroom that appears impeccably clean, yet still feeling compelled to cover your nose and mouth due to an unpleasant odor. A restroom permeated with foul odors is a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses, directly threatening public health. Therefore, restroom cleaning and odor management are of paramount importance.

Safeguarding public health begins with the foundational link—cleaning and disinfection. Restroom cleaning is by no means a simple surface wipe-down, but rather a scientific and systematic microbial prevention and control system. ISS applies professional disinfectants that meet environmental standards, standardized cleaning procedures, and strict inspection criteria, dedicating itself to building the first line of defense against the spread of diseases for you in public spaces such as office buildings, shopping malls, schools, and hospitals.

A clean, odorless, and fully equipped restroom can greatly enhance people's sense of comfort and dignity. Especially in venues like shopping malls, offices, and restaurants, the restroom experience directly impacts users' evaluations of the overall environment. Meanwhile, restroom hygiene is also a direct reflection of a facility's management level. A pristine restroom demonstrates attention to facility details, reflecting the degree of civilization and a professional corporate image. Conversely, a dirty, messy, and subpar restroom can leave a negative impression, undermining the reputation and attractiveness of the venue. ISS's service philosophy is precisely to put the user experience first. From the freshness of the air and the absence of water stains on the countertops to the timely replenishment of hand sanitizer and attentive services in the finest details, we focus on every aspect that affects your experience.

In maintaining the long-lasting hygiene of restrooms, personnel management is also an indispensable and critical component. When cleaning staff are granted a certain degree of autonomy—such as the ability to flexibly adjust cleaning frequencies and methods based on actual conditions—and when a reward system is established to recognize outstanding employees, they will naturally transition from "passive executors" to "proactive managers," and the hygiene conditions of the restrooms will naturally improve as a result.

Furthermore, many venues (such as public spaces and catering enterprises) must comply with health regulations and industry standards; regularly cleaning restrooms is a prerequisite for compliant operations. Neglecting restroom hygiene can result in penalties from regulatory authorities. Co-building a safe restroom space requires not only professional cleaning services but also our collective care for the environment. The male protagonist in the movie Perfect Days, who works as a cleaner, treats his job with utmost seriousness; in addition to creating his own cleaning tools, he uses a mirror to check the base of every cleaned toilet to ensure no stains are left behind. In a washroom where every second is worth cherishing in such a way, we also need to cultivate good restroom habits to jointly maintain a safe and pristine washroom.

World Toilet Day is not a holiday for "toilets" themselves, but an entry point for us to reimagine public life.

Silent corners, visible cleanliness. On World Toilet Day, we reiterate what ISS's professional cleaning services safeguard is health, dignity, efficiency, and above all, the future.
